What is acne?

Acne is a condition that affects virtually all teens throughout puberty and damages the hair follicles of the face, chest, and back. Despite bacteria playing a part in its growth, it is not the cause. It’s pretty uncommon for women in their mid-to-late-20s to develop acne.

Acne vulgaris is a form of acne that affects teenagers and is distinguished by three types of lesions:

  • The blackhead or comedo
  • Papule of inflammation
  • Pustule, sometimes known as a pimple. Acne develops as pimples on the skin.
  • Occluded pores
  • Tender red bumps are known as pimples or zits
  • Pustules

What causes acne?

Acne is caused by a combination of factors, by the stimulation of sebaceous glands associated with hair follicles during puberty or owing to other hormonal changes. Sebum is a natural lubricant and skin protector which is used in Acne treatment. A variation in the skin cells’ maturity is associated with increased oil production, making them more likely to seal the follicular hole. If the plug gets covered by a thin layer of skin, it appears as a whitehead; if it gets exposed to the air, the darker exposed section of the plug is called a “blackhead.”

A bulge develops as the blocked hair follicle enlarges. The follicle wall may burst as it grows larger, enabling irritating chemicals and skin microbes to access the deeper layers of the skin, causing inflammation. Inflammation at the skin’s surface generates a pustule; deeper inflammation may cause a pimple, yet deeper inflammation causes a cyst.

Here are a few things that don’t get generally associated with acne:

  • Recent research has linked a high-carbohydrate diet, milk, and pure chocolate to acne aggravation, and these findings are far from conclusive.
  • Not dirt, but oxidized oil causes blackheads. Sweat gets generated by different glands in the skin and does not cause acne. Excessive washing can dry and irritate the skin.
  • Some people are so bothered about their pimples for prolonging their appearance. Stress does not have a significant impact on the development of acne.
